Fringe Festival and Thank you Nari!

You Houston Peeps, if you ever get to See Freneticore...go do so. THey are really great people and put on a great show. IT was a wonderful weekend filled with Theater, Moviemakers, Music and Dance. Our weekend (second weekend), we were only one of two dance troupes, but we had a great time, and the other dancers were great to talk to and get to know.

We shared our dressing room with a theater troupe and they kept us laughing and relaxed as we prepared to share our dance on yet another different stage...our second attempt to bring our brand of theatrical fusion dance out to a different audience. Again, it was terrifying, specially as we learned that the ceiling was only 8 feet tall, and the lights hung even lower from there.

Lisha and I both routinely brushed our hands across the lights the first night. Yes, the lights were that LOW.

Oddly, not once did we smack a light with our sticks.

We danced 23 minute straight. Sweated. Growled. Snarled. Threatened. Stared down the audience. and said Good Night.

I found out the next night that I kinda freaked a guy out *giggle*....cause I broke that 3rd wall, and held eye contact while I danced. YEAH!

Second night we recieved a few standing ovations and a call for Encore.

after 23 minutes of dancing, I don't have encore in me LOL.

I am SO VERY PROUD of my dance sisters....and what they have brought to the stage with me...we will be taking it to kismet with permission from Angela and Jess, for our Back half show. It is an intense story to tell, and we want to make sure they are OK with it being on that stage.

Thank you Nari for letting us crash at your place! your puppinator is awesome! and your Michael is so sweet. I keep telling everyone that they should date Michaels....Michaels are good people...course...I could be biased *wink*

This is where we are this weekend.

2 nights, Friday and Saturday. This is our WAR show. It is the culmination of several of our peices that we have been slowing putting together over the past year +. The staff routine, Fiddle and Drum, even a reworking of Visions very very first routine that started us....Disgustipated (aka...the Tool routine, "This. Is. Necessary."). Just a new idea...a new look at things...Music from Maynard (Tool and Perfect Circle) and Johnny Cash, and Sarah Hickman....We will take this from high to low and everywhere in the middle...Bring your Prozac!

If you are in Houston, we would love a friendly face!

Fringe Festival in Houston

We are thrilled to be dancing at the Fringe Festival in Houston! Freneticore, who gifted us with the term "Earth Mother Tanks" invited us down to share a stage for two nights in August.

the is a festival type scenario...so it is about 3 hours, but there are several different performers,

the nights we perform (program 2), there will be Theater, Dance, Film, and Music. Show starts at 8, we go on at 10, so you can be fashionably late, but who knows what you might miss...could be interesting!!

We will be presenting our War and Loss peices. So those that have seen Counting Bodies at Alchemy, or Fiddle and Drum at Vagabond Halfla and Raks into Spring, or God's Gonna Cut you Down at Vagabond....

expect more along those lines.

Oh...and we messed with our first peice ever...Tool...Disgustipated...to give it a new feel in light of the War.

belly dance bra and belt for sale

This is a hand made costume. Both bra and belt are lined. The bra will fit a 34 C. The bra is very sturdy will hold it's shape well.
This costume will work great for new students, hobbyist, class recitals, parties photos and performances.
This is an original one of a kind costume. May see photos in my pics on page 1.

The bra will fit a 34 C. The bra cups are covered in a pink colored fabric with pink bugle beads sewn into the fabric. The bra is trimmed in a gold sequin gimp trim. The bra has beaded fringe made from pink seed beads that hangs about 4 3/4 inches long in groups of three .The neck straps are about 34 inches long and tie in a criss cross manner with D rings. The side panels are covered in a pink color velvet fabric(as well as the neck straps I would like to add) The side panels have D rings attach to the ends to add closure for the bra. The is bra is lined and very sturdy will hold it's shape.

The belt is cover in the same pink beaded fabric and gold trim as the bra cups. . The belt is one piece and is a tie front as if it were a hip sash . (has a bit more weight to it than a hip sash) The belt has an elastic casing in the back that can be gather to help with a better fit around the hips for a dancer with curves. The belt is 35 inches long. The belt will fit a small to medium . the belt can be sized down before I send it if you would like it smaller. The fringe is made from pink colored seed beads like on the bra and is about 5 3/4 inches long. This is a nice set sparkles well in light and good movement with the fringe Email with any questions and more photos. Help!

I am trying to put together a presentation dedicated to the diversity of dance and I need photos. I am looking for photos of dancers....all styles(not just ME dance styles ALL dance), genders, heights, weights, ethnicities, and ages. I am looking for the variety of photos too...action shots, posed shot, group shots, solo shots, rehearsal shots, preparation shots....etc.

We did this Festival last year and it was a lot of fun to head out there and support a community that is working hard to promote green living, as well as building up the Oak Cliff community.

Raks into Spring was Fantabulous! Katia of Boston was a breath of fresh air! She was a great instructor that I learned a lot of technique from, and one of our dancers was finally able to get "spotting" by listening to Katia's instruction. Her philosophy of dance was what moved me most, and hearing her speak her thoughts on dance, really drove home the love, passion, and purpose of what Visions does with our dance.

The show that night was great! Nadirah really brought together some wonderful people with lots of variety! Visions danced in Jeans and T-shirts to represent a more intimate "time out of a scene" mood of the peice that we did (Fiddle and Drum by Perfect Circle was the music), and even though we looked radically different from the cabaret dancers, I think it was pretty well recieved and people understood and accepted the unorthodox costume choice.

While leaving the Fitness Center at Lockheed Martin....

Lisha, Lori and I were buzzed by a Turkey that was making a break towards freedom! We almost had Thanksgiving dinner...but luckily we missed hitting the brave bird and he strutted off into the woods across the street. Luckily the cars going the opposite direction didn't him him either. NO harm, NO fowl.

*ba dum dum! CHING!*

*CACKLE* those are the puns folks...(it is a true story...me, lisha.lori...wild turkey.)

Visions In Dance was accepted to perform at the first annual PILOT: Choreographers Take Flight! The shows are Friday, February 8 and Saturday, February 9 at 8pm held at the Ft. Worth Community Arts Center. We are very excited to perform in a modern dance show (our first!) and we would love to see you there. As this is a show highlighting choreographers, there are bound to be lots of other performances to enjoy and be inspired from.

My god.

What can I say about the Alegria studio that did my Christmas and 1st birthday photography.

He managed to capture my kid. I was terrified of taking my pictures to Babies R Us...I have done that. They got a fantastically stilted photo of my kid doing a very plastic smile. I got no changes of clothes. I was in and out very fast. I was only allowed so many frames to be taken and if we didnt get a shot...Too bad.

My experience with Dave was the total opposite.

We got single shots, kid shots, family shots. we got clothing changes. He worked with my 1 year old to get her over her stranger danger and had her relaxed and dancing in front of the camera in no time! He was willing to shoot frame after frame until he caught my children in their natural state. He captured a memory of THEM, not a memory of "say cheese." but a memory of Lillie's questioning mischevious smile. a memory of Gabriel's total inability to sit still, hence the look of him NEEDING to be elsewhere...preferably where Spongebob might be...but when Lillie comes into the photos, the look of the pure love he has for his sister and how very much he adores her pours out in every frame. ( I am so showing him when he decides she must be disowned! LOL!)

I cannot think of a more enjoyable photography experience. We laughed, had fun, and caught a moment in time. That is exactly what I wanted...a moment caught and frozen, so when my children are off and away, I can remember them, small and just exploring the world and all the fun it has to offer....I couldn't have gotten that anywhere else but at Alegria.

Thank you Dave for taking the time to make it happen.

Troupe competition with Mahmoud Reda and Elena of NY in Austin

This year we are having our third Troupe Competition in Austin on August 4th and 5th, 2007. In addition to Mahmoud Reda we are also having Elena of NY to judge, teach and perform. Also this year we are having the competition in a really nice theater that hold 420 people.

Auditions for Diffusion 2008!!

Diffusion is the show for experimental, on the edge cultural dance. Hosted by Visions In Dance, the show will feature dancers from all over the dance community. Diffusion is where a dancer can come to express themselves, their story, and their dance with out fear. The performance will be Saturday, January 19th 2008.

VHS/DVD submissions will be accepted untill October 31st 2007.

Live Auditions will be held September 30th and October 21st 2007. Location TBA (will be in Dallas area) To schedual an audition contact diffusion.dance@gmail.com

Time limits: Solos up to 4 minutes 30 seconds. Duests up to 6 minutes. Trios up to 7 minutes. Troupes up to 9 minutes.

You guys missed it last night! Zatara kick serious fanny! I was just delighted with her performances.. It was good to see her in her "natural habitat" so to speak. The stage was a bit wonky and she handled it with humor and grace during her sword solo. She was just lovely. I'm so very glad we get to have her too!

We cross many dance forms and are affiliated with no particular studio....this is an amazing opportunity for us all to join in a unified dance and help our world/community.

Our first meeting of the year will be on March 1 at the Hurst Recreation Center from 8-9pm. All subsequent meetings will be held on the 1st Thursday of the month as well. Please bring $3 to cover room rental and administrative paperwork (making copies).

In July, we will perform in the annual anniversary of PURE's first procession in NYC. All PURE chapters across the world perform on the same day to celebrate the anniversary. We will also be dancing at Kismet this year.

This group is democratic. Brandy and I are your facilitators, but we are here to help you and the group flourish. It's everyone's group and all ideas and input are welcome. At this meeting, we will

- Get your information
- Tell you about PURE
- Set date, time, and place for anniversary processional.
- Set date, time, and place for Kismet.
- Pick charities, events, or causes to spread awareness
- DANCE and DRUM!

If you have someone who doesn't wish to perform but would like to help, we also have assistant positions. These wonderful people join us at our procession and help us in many ways.

I want to extend a HUGE HUGE THANK YOU to all the wonderful dancers who came out to experiment on the Diffusion stage. And another Thank You to all the folks that came out, weathering the cold, to come see what this mix of dancers had to offer.

We tried very hard to span many styles of dance, and many themes. We sincerely hope that the range and stories were interesting to you, the audience and dance community.

We request that if you have ANY Suggestion on how to make it a better event next year, to email us and let us hear your voice, we would deeply appreciate it. Please let us know how we can better serve the dance community through this event, from the audtion process to the actual presentation.

Diffusion is coming! Diffusion is coming!

We at Visions in Dance have listened to music, watched dancers from all venues, and dreamed a dream: We all have songs we want to dance to. Songs that may be inappropriate for a vast majority of venues. Perhaps you have a theme you wish to explore that would not be appropriate for the typical traditional venue. It is from this dream that Diffusion was born. It will be an over 18 event, where you will be free to use music, uncut and in its most raw form. You will be free to explore themes as difficult, impossible, joyous, painful, or daring as you dream.

We are also accepting ALL forms of dance. We, ourselves, are belly dance based, and are getting this information to mostly the belly dance community, as these are the people we know. However...we are very open to modern, ballet, jazz, tap, folklorico...anything that is entertaining, well thought out, and fullfills the purpose of this event...to challenge a dancer and the audience to move beyond the traditional box. (We have already been approached by a Modern dance troupe, and are looking forward to their coming submission).

It is a juried event, so please send a video tape or DVD of intended performance with final music selection, and close approximation of intended costume. We are asking for these tapes to best build a show based on music and costume to create a whole feeling and intent to the show. We do not want to just assign people to a spot based on random draw...we are hoping to use music and costume to build a cohesive show, start to finish.

There is a time limit: Solos up to 4 minutes 30 seconds. Duets up to 6 minutes. Trios up to 7 minutes. Troupes up to 9 minutes.

As a note...if you are an ATS or Improv style troupe, we understand that a solid choreography is not possible to present. So we simply ask for a video tape of your abilities utilizing music close to what you intend (if you intend to bring arabic music, show us a vid dancing to arabic music, if you are planning to use modern industrial, show us a vid of you doing modern industrial). These improv style troupes will then need to provide us a copy of their final music selection, and a photograph of intended costuming, so we can continue to build the show with your music choice involved.

The event will be held in The Midcities, Between Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday, January 13, 2007, 7:00 pm.

Visions In Dance actually had a meeting about this at rehearsal tonight....

And we are, as a troupe, boycotting the venue. Should the woman involved apologize to Heather for the physical assualt, and to Obsidia for the verbal abuse, we would take the venue under consideration again.

A few of us have danced at the Venue before, and had no problems in the past. Of course, we were not doing fusion at the time. As we are exploring the many sides of fusion these days, this is something we had to consider for our safety.

We stand firmly and strongly beside Liquid Hips and their right to dance and explore as they are moved to do. We stand firmly beside Liquid Hips as they share their talent with open minded people who are willing to explore all the emotions and ideas dance has to offer.

We stand firmly beside Miabella and Crescent Moon Studios, and their continued pursuit of growing ME dance, reaching and expanding the boundaries. We stand firmly beside Miabella and her generous willingness to invite others to share the stage and be part of the growing ME dance community.

We will NOT stand beside an establishment that allows its owners or any employee to willingly engage in physical or verbal abuse with their guest or hired dancers. I hope it was an anomaly of behaviour, and that the individual in question comes around to her senses and apologizes for her actions...I don't care how much you dislike someone or how they are dancing, it in NO way gives anyone the right to hurt, harm, or injure another person physically or verbally.

Actually, I'm surprised Lisha didn't put anything here since it was her idea, her design, she got it done, and she paid for it...

We have t-shirts for sale! The word Visionary is in white on a black shirt. Our symbol is used to replace the 'o' in Visionary, and our website address is in a smaller font underneath Visionary. We are selling them for $15, in sizes (Lisha, correct me if I'm wrong here) S, M, L, XL, and XXL. We had a table at this last Kismet, but if you weren't there or didn't see us you can order a shirt by emailing your info to dancers@visionsindance.com and we can get one sent out to you. Soon we will have the ordering available through our website, but that is still being worked on.

Yes, we will eventually have more merchandise available. For now, we are going to use the profits from the shirts to help pay for seminar fees so we can perform at shows and contest entry fees so we can dance in competitions. So terribly exciting!!! *squeeeee*

Catching Up

We've been a quiet tribe for over a month now, not much posting and not much dancing. After all the work we did for our show we needed a break and with Christmas and New Year's around the corner we decided to wait until January to get together again. I hope we start posting more and getting all sorts of conversations going, I like it when people get excited about dance. Anyway, we've had one and a half rehearsals so far (only two people made it to our first practice of the year, boo flu!), but we've already started a new choreography! We are all excited about this one. It's a short but energetic number and we've already managed to choreography a third of the way through. *giggle* I cannot wait until we have this one done and performed! It makes me feel sneaky. Our goal is to have it ready for the March Kismet.

We are also working on our website. We are looking for links submissions to include so that we can expand our visitors' knowledge of our little local belly dance world. Feel free to send us some as I'm sure we'll forget a few here and there. We are also looking for (positive) quotes from any of our performances. We would love for you to share your thoughts and comments from when you saw us dance.

We did a little photo shoot earlier in the month so we would have some great shots for our website. We spent all afternoon one Friday taking poses from our show and coming up with other poses... it was a lot of fun. I've only seen a handful of shots from the shoot, but they look awesome! I can't wait to share them with folks, and I can't wait to see the rest of the photographs.

We all had a great Yule, Christmas, and New Year's. We got to spend it with our families and each other. Personally, it was one of my better holiday seasons. We hope everyone else also had meaningful holidays and a joyous New Year.

If I left anything out, hopefully one of the other girls with add on to this.

On Friday we're dancing out at a Thanksgiving festival in Dallas. We've taken out our two 'dark' routines and we may be dropping a couple more to fit into the time slot. It'll be fun, (even if it will be cold) we're trying to get out and dance at more events.

Last Week!

Well, this is it, the week before our Kismet show. We're having a big costuming push at the moment so we can work through our little costume change on Friday, we want to make sure everyone can get changed in time. We're also running through the show several times every day we get together. I'm hoping everything will work out well Saturday, that we all remember the little tweaks we've made to the choreographies. *sigh* It feels like we could have done so much more to be a little better prepared. I'm sure the show will go fine, though.

It will be quite lovely to have time back to ourselves and our personal lives, that's for sure. We've really crammed our schedules between work, school, family, and friends with adding in the dancing twice a week and costuming. Personally, I'm hoping to get a week or two of quiet before the Christmas season at work really gets going.

Visions is extremely pleased to finally announce a date to everyone. Saturday, November 5, 2005 we have requested, and been accepted, to be the performing troupe at Kismet! This is to honour the one year anniversary of our first Kismet performance as Visions In Dance. We have already been working very hard on our show: tweaking routines you may have already seen, but mostly coming up with new dances to wow you all with.
